How to loop a song for an hour without gaps

Looping a song for an hour sounds simple, and most of the work is in the join where one pass ends and the next begins. A player that reloads the file for each pass can leave a short pause at that point. The free hour looper decodes the whole song once and restarts it from memory, so the join has no reload in it.

How many passes is an hour

An hour is 3,600 seconds, so the number of passes is 3,600 divided by the song length, rounded down. A 200 s song, which is 3:20, plays 18 times with 17 joins between the passes. If each join carried a half-second pause, that would add 8.5 seconds of silence over the hour.

Why some songs loop badly even with no gap

A gapless player removes the pause, but it cannot change what is in the file. A track that ends with a fade-out reaches silence and then starts again at full level, and you hear that restart however exact the wrap is. A track that ends on a ringing note and starts on a hard beat has the same problem.

Songs built to repeat, such as game music, lo-fi beds and ambient pieces, end in a way that leads back to the start, so their joins disappear. For any other track, choose a different place to wrap.

Looping part of a song instead

Use the A-B Section Looper to repeat a chosen section. If you want a short loop you can download, the Loop Finder ranks candidate loop points and lets you audition the real wrap before you export.

This is useful when you are rehearsing and want the same eight bars until they are clean. A count-in in front of the section gives you the lead-in a band would have.

The sleep timer and what happens when the screen locks

Set a timer from 15 minutes to 8 hours, or leave it off to loop forever. When time runs out the volume glides down over about thirty seconds and playback stops, so nothing cuts off while you are asleep.

On a desktop the loop keeps going with the screen off. A phone is stricter, and iOS in particular may pause audio in a background tab. For overnight listening, keep the tab in the foreground and plug the phone in.

What this tool does not make

The looper repeats playback in your browser. It does not render or download a one-hour audio file, and it does not make a video.

SongRepeat in the studio builds a long full-song repeat video from a song plus a picture or a short visual clip. That is a different workflow, and your file is not transferred from the free tool. Free usage has limits, so review the processing cost before you start.

If your repeated track is a blend of separate parts, read how to mix stems without a DAW before exporting the mix you want to loop.

For a different repeat job, browse the free-tools hub: choose a section looper for rehearsal or a loop finder when you need a downloadable short loop.
